Who are the tv adverts aimed at ? One thing is for sure , they are made to connect with the average person or else they are futile ! You know your not average when you just cringe and cant relate to what their getting at . They grate against your mind set or infuriate . And they are relentless .
On the other far end of the scale particularly insulting are cosmetic adverts or weirdly perfume or designer aftershave ones . They try to appeal to the part of us that's drawn to archetypes using images of beauty , the sea , gold ect. The ordinary person is drawn in subconsciously but I feel like a fish that feels the hook in the bait .....

Talk Radio
Unbelievably we have no longer have a full time " talk radio " station in this country . And this is a reflection of Britain when I tell you we did but about 3 years ago it a converted to a 24hour sports talk format . Not my definition of a phone in .
The original general phone in format was so fresh and new . The presenters were very good and the later the shows the better they got . The media couldn't handle the general public or everyday man having his say and were very critical and sarcastic at the time . The station changed hands , advertising revenue was increased as sports were deemed more rating friendly . Out went interesting , fresh and a bit dangerous ; in came mainstream , conventional and predictable . And that was the end of it . Other stations have phone ins but only of a nominal ( my favourite word ! it should be used more ! ) kind .
I see on TV the American scene is on a different planet ! Religious stations and extreme views and presenters seem to provide a heady mix . How envious am I ? I loved my station and used to listen every night and sometimes in the dark years till the early hours . I miss it ....
