This is getting out of hand

Well this wet weather is really starting to get out of hand and is beginning to stress me . It was the same this time last year . Its come so much rain it has actually changed the colour of the dale and the buildings on the farm . It has changed the landscape of the farm so much so that its taken on a nightmarish bedraggled muddy apocalyptic appearance and a sense that nature is pushing things close to the unexperienced or unprecedented . Yes it looks quite disturbing . Nature can scare you , even when you make your living through it .
   The fields are just a mass of mud and even our quad bike is having trouble travelling to feed the sheep who are now starting to look heavy as their lambs are growing . They are looking muddy and wind swept and uncomfortable such is the weather . Nature and the land can only take so much rain . This has been the wettest January on record . Surely something will give soon . Today it actually stopped raining but a terrible forecast for the weekend is coming . I really am sick of rain . Whats happened to nice average weather ? All we seem to get is extremes . Extremes are not good and rarely beneficial to anyone .

Chocoholic stress head

Im very tired and short tempered at the moment so im looking forward to a long weekend away in February , no nowhere glamorous . Sometimes just a change of scene is good when you live and work in the same place everyday .
   I have developed a serious appetite for Galaxy chocolate recently . I can eat a 114gram bar in a night . How long this can continue for I don't know . I don't know why , but it seems essential at the moment . That's odd. In fact I feel in an odd way full stop , not in a bad way . I cant explain . Im tired....

I saw this heading in a woman's magazine and maybe its just my perspective as a man but I thought what an odd collection of words to associate together . Can they be associated together ? If so which ones and for how long im dubious . Like I said it was a woman's magazine....

Windows 8

Now I know the number 8 means trouble and Windows 8 is no exception . This new update on my lap top has driven me mad . This set up is more suited to touch screen users I think . There appears to be a lot of shunting around to get at things as the tabs are so large you cant fit many on a screen . As an improvement this is a disaster . It appears more simple ,but requires more thinking . An annoying paradox . Yes I can use it but its a step backwards . Im a luddite at heart , but im not the only one to express this view over the past year . The biggest gripe I have is trying to put photo's on my blog or ebay . You cant move from one to the other easily . Surely this is the main reason for windows ?
   Today I wiped all my photo's off accidentally but luckily I have them on another hard drive gleaned from the previous broken lap top . I really hate this set up . Its making anything hard work . If I could get my hands on the person responsible for this monstrosity I will not be held responsible....

Somethings going out the window soon ...

Tonight Im about to blow a technological fuse . Having had my new laptop working 100% yesterday I needed to put in a verification password and now its gone alien on me . Its was fine before . Add to this my blogger is playing silly buggers and not letting me go where I want to or telling me Im not following any blogs at all . Some links no longer work , some blogs lists accompany profiles and some dont depending day to day . Im really starting to get sick of this . And to top things off its been so wet my front door has warped making getting  in and out of our house a real hassle .

Update : The information I was looking for has strangely just fallen into my hands . I wasn't expecting that . As if by magic...

Dunblane

About 18 years ago the terrible massacre of children by gun man Thomas Hamilton took place . It was the most shocking event in this country's recent times . Immediately following this event our Parliament banned the ownership of all hand guns . This meant that people who belonged to legitimate gun clubs with licenced fire arms could no longer shot at ranges . This at the time seemed stupid as criminals did not hold licences for their guns , obviously and it seemed as though this idea of banning all ownership of hand guns was merely a pointless " knee jerk " reaction .
   Today Nigel Farage is suggesting reversing this law , and I guess there would be little danger caused by doing so , but I still cant bring myself to say he's right or say I support such a reversal . Something has or must have changed over this long period of time since the original shootings .Maybe I mistrust the general man in the street more , perhaps there is more mental instability about toady , maybe its because ive become a father ? I don't know .Something has changed .
  I think  basically when it comes to guns you must stick to one idea .You cant go changing directions . You are either for or against . In America the cat is already out of the bag and there is no going back . To try and change the direction of ownership will not work anymore than  reversing the banning of handguns here will work  . Mixed messages create confusion and there is nothing MORE dangerous than a confused person . They panic . Consistency is the best tool . It matters not which way though as long as it keeps the status quo of the country .

A murky day

Today is strange day . Its soon going to come on wet again soon . Its hard to explain how wet and muddy it is in Dent at the moment . I explained this to a friend by saying   " Its like a pile of mud with torrential rain pissing down on it "  This sounds a bit extreme but its an accurate description . It then gets worse as I hear a front of snow is moving in , well briefly . That will put the media and everyone into a spin ...
   Im in the mood to go to the cinema but I cant as my ears and sinuses aren't good at the moment and the noise makes my head spin . Im also tired but in that annoying way that makes you want to get out and do something . I think this is caused by the growing daylight ( however little ) or more likely the brighter days suggesting I should be taking advantage of them . I shall probably go to sleep on the sofa instead  though as its one of those dull , wet winter afternoons.
  I still have not got a new laptop and I am making it my goal to get this sorted today . I thought not having access to one at night after work would lead to me being more sociable , but it hasn't . I just watch more pointless T.V , at least when your online your doing something constructive . Funny how I see this as now constructive and not time wasting as when we all first discovered the Internet . Its been a while since ive had a general ramble on here . I used to do it a lot . When others ramble its quite pleasant just listening and you can end up saying more of interest in a ramble than you first realise .
   I feel im missing out on something recently , but I dont know what it it is . Nothing much sinks in . I feel like im skimming along the surface of something . My weekends feel just the same as my weekdays . That sounds dire but ive longed for that feeling of mundanes for so long . Of course it needs to be punctuated with something . Im rambling...

Standards are slipping , surely ?

Since Christmas ive developed a craving for chocolate . I bought a large bar of Cadburys milk chocolate this week and was disappointed to find that standards have deteriorated . It was too sweet and sickly and I felt ill next morning . I also became very itchy and stuffed up . I know the price of coca beans has risen  and so has  the price of milk slightly and its from these two pieces of information that I suggest that corners have been cut , but then I come across a large article in The Telegraph trumpeting the fact that Cadburys have recently benefited from a multi-million pound investment that now makes them the worlds most respected British chocolatier  !  Really ?

  Now I often find myself way out of touch with popular opinion , but this really does prove the point ! 

This morning I had an epiphany

This morning I heard that statistically  " More working people live in poverty than non working people "  
When I heard this statement a crystal clear insight came over me and I realised that " they " the Government have us exactly where they've wanted us for years . We who work are being milked dry financially of every last available penny . This has been taken to the furthest possible level by our food , energy and money suppliers . This has been done to maximise what can be taken from us , and the fact that working people are still classed as in living in poverty proves that . I feel so strongly that this is the truth that I feel an almost spiritual rapture about just how true this sad fact is . I have never felt like this before . The day has come , but how did we not see this coming ?
   Well this awful chain of events started with government bringing in the minimum wage .  A great distraction to appear to give people a fair crack of the whip as they say .And of course a left wing government must have the workers interests at heart of course ? Why thats their founding bedrock isnt it ?  Also they let immigration just go wild . This further distracted people from  focusing on the real enemy . Meanwhile with the other hand they've allowed big business and the banks a free hand to raise hell and charge us the max . We have all been duped . Can you really see any of these organisations releasing their grip on us again ? They have us beat .
  Well once again you will have to keep your eye on the ball as again our ( Coalition ) government is suggesting raising the minimum wage  ( before the next election , naturally... ) and we now know what that means . They will take it all back again with their other hand ; their stooges , big business....

The Americans !

Unless you actually live in Britain its very hard for me to overstate just how much George Bush influenced our perceptions of  Americans . Until fairly recently if you asked someone what traits would sum up an American I think the words dumb , stupid , fat and noisy would have been mentioned somewhere . But how could one man ruin the reputation of the worlds greatest country ?
   Firstly lets get one thing straight . Yes, the Iraq war made him unpopular , but that is not the main reason for our dim view of Americans . Its was more the man himself or how his character was portrayed to us . Yes , lets put to one side whether you agreed with or not with  the war  as that is a " red herring " The real problem was our media " sound bite " system of reporting . We only ever got to see a few seconds at a time of this mans speeches and nearly every one of them contained a hesitation , a blank look or a vague pause . This was so much so that to think of this man as anything other than an imbecile opened you yourself up for abuse and ridicule . Day after day the media rammed this imbecile image in our faces .
  One day however things changed  big time for me when I watched several minutes of a speech he made . It was live and unedited . I suddenly realised this man could talk . He was articulate and passionate . He appeared to have charisma too . Had I been duped for years by our British media ? If so why ? Someone appeared to have worked very hard over those years finding silly looks or mispronunciations to edit out to show on our T.V news , often nightly... Well this is how it appeared to me , and I now question how other world leaders are portrayed on our television screens today . Are their sound bites edited to portray an un-true image ? Well today I ask the question ; Was George bush really dumb ? Because its that image of him that tainted our view of Americans most until now . Maybe im right , maybe im wrong ? . I would love to know !

Dont ask...

Having watched a fair few eighties films or nineties films even ,  it appears to me that jeans were back then designed for men with backsides . As time has gone by jeans for the modern young man now have no backside at all . This has been gradually getting worse over time . Nowadays showing your backsides cleavage if you will is as acceptable ,  if not the equivalent of a woman showing of her frontal cleavage back in the day . There appears to have been a role reversal . Its crazy !
 

For old times sake...

Having said only a few posts ago that I no longer get worked up about the news , I found myself shouting at my TV once again this morning . Its been a while . Why ? Well the U.N were holding a peace conference about Syria . They invited Iran . The Syrian " rebels " said they wouldn't attend if Iran came because they support Assad . WAKE UP ! This is called democracy , you talk , you bargain , you hussle even , of course if these rebels ever gain power we wont be seeing much " democracy " from them that's for sure . The scene is like something from my front room when my daughter has toddler friends round and they squabble over toys . Its pathetic. No wonder the world is burning...

Im not a Christian but...

Its been a while since ive had a rant . To be honest Im worn out with the world and its events , and politics too . However I did start shouting at my T.V last night as I caught the beginnings of a property renovation program . These can be quite watchable , but every now and again there turns up some stupid couple who have set their hearts on converting an old church into their new home .
  Of course the church is derelict and has been de-consecrated ( however is that done ? ) so there's no reason this act should offend anyone then ? Well I find it extremely offencive that these smug , clever tossers think they can impress everyone by living in a holy building . Well I still see such places as  holy ! No matter what is done to this church , first visual impressions will always scream CHURCH . Such key character features are obviously left intact if slightly altered . What mindset do such people have ? How do they sleep at night after such an arrogant act of desecration and vandalism . Do they have a God complex ? It sounds a silly suggestion but Im not laughing . Tossers.....

Hit and miss ?

Lifes a gas ?

Carbon Monoxide . A deadly , odourless , colourless gas that slowly suffocates you while you sleep or go about your everyday tasks . I have an in-law who recently suffered such poisoning over time and only became aware of it after having a blood test and it showed up low oxygen in his blood . It took him months to recover . He and his wife being OAP's were lucky to survive . Its was only luck that saved them . Also three people died last spring in a boat on a lake near where I live by the same gas , this time from a barbecue on board . So why am I banging on about this gas ?
    Well  yesterday a friend who was baby sitting for us had to spend the day in our house as her Carbon Monoxide alarm had gone off . You can see why she vacated her house and shut down her stove so quickly . A faulty alarm was suspected , so  I lent her mine . It went off again . Not good at all , so she rang the fire station . Sensible eh ? Phew all sorted ? Er , no . In what can only be a result of our modern " perception is everything " times she received this advice ( that's a loose term )  THESE ALARMS ARE VERY SENSITIVE , TRY OPENING SOME WINDOWS AND GETTING SOME VENTILATION . Thats OK then , the alarm is over sensitive . Nothing to worry about ? I guess she will just go to sleep tonight with her family and just hope they all wake up in the morning ? What kind of attitude is this for a fire service ? You cant take chances with this gas . Whats the point of an alarm thats not taken seriously ? Is it ANY use at all ? I despair. This really is the spirit of the age . Apathy , laziness and negligence , all from our " fire service " . Pathetic and dangerous . I despair...

Twins of Evil

   I enjoyed watching this old Hammer film during Christmas . I don't want to think how many years have passed since I last saw it on T.V  !   The best twist for me in the plot is the fact that the Countess who murders in the name of capturing eternal youth , only becomes youthful temporally . When the effects wear off she ages even more , hence she is eternally trapped in a cycle of murder she can not break . An all to believable nightmare .
   Yes , Hammer did use the best glammer models of the day apparently . Can you imagine that happening today ? I suppose we see pop stars making appearances in horror films instead nowadays . And as for which twin is good or evil , I frankly don't care ! But there again I am a man....

 My , how times have changed . How ideas of romance have changed ! Breaking and entering onto a womans private property or boat , and leaving an anonymous mind game message was deemed sexy , and that was before attempting to kill an endangered species !!! This guy would be locked up today in an instant , and as for his quarry .... well I think he's totally blown it with her for the foreseeable future ...

Of course I will soon back track on this....

My lap top is dead and im not buying another this month . I replaced two screens last year costing me 260 pounds ! ( I always write " pounds " as the other lap top I have access to broke last year and was repaired with what must have been  an American key pad as I now only have a $ key to show the money symbol ) Of course the only problem with using someone elses lap top is you have to listen to them babbling on as you type , very distracting . Im not sure this is going to work either !

    Ive no enthusiasm for replacing technology , whether its freezers , cookers or washing machines because they just don't last . Id say 3 years is an average lifespan . Hence I try to buy second hand , of course that's not ideal but modern standards are so poor . That said the new price of such items hasn't gone up for at least 10 years , so I guess corners are being cut somewhere....

   

We know the price of everything and the value of nothing

But have you got a good deal ? Price is king , that's for sure ! Whatever we see advertised on T.V the price is the key focus . I found this mantra taken to new levels recently on a holiday advert that showed two pairs of feet happily walking through the surf on a sunset beach... The accompanying conversation was " It really makes your holiday when you find out how much more the couple next door paid  " Hence the smugness of paying less was essential to the holidays enjoyment it was suggested . Or the fact that some ones paid more . Who cares ? If that sort of thing  makes  your holiday then get a life ! Of course knowing someone else has paid more for a thing does make some peoples day .
   This mindset of pay the least you can becomes a bit inadvisable when you decide to buy something second hand , but its still there banging away in the back of your mind . I have a friend who was looking for a car , he found  one but it was a little more than the going price , but it was in a much better than average condition  . He didn't buy it though because he couldn't bare to think he would have had to pay slightly  over the odds for it . He would rather let the car go and not have it at all than suffer this " humiliation " , despite it making sense . Illogical ? It was an idea he just couldn't get passed .
   I found myself in a similar situation a while ago . I bought the car , but for months afterwards I kept finding myself saying that yes it was a fantastic car , but you've guessed it ; I had paid a little too much . The fact it was worth doing so still could not conquer this silly lowest price is best ideology  . I guess its the life long accumulation of consumerism brain washing suggesting that you re  more  clever than everyone else if you pay the least or lowest price  . This flattery is used in sales promotions in shops . Vanity , that's their  target .  It works . After all you re no mug are you ? Just don't use this eye for " saving " money all the time or it will backfire . I guess its all relative , but thats the problem . Its a mindset that can over rule common sense .

My new year has not got off to a good start . My was laptop was suspiciously wet on opening it this morning. Off to the menders it will go . I wonder what could have happened ? Water again.....
