My 40 mile mission

On today, the infamous Black Friday, what am I buying tonight ?
                                                                                                      Car screen wash
                                                                                                     A potato peeler
                                                                                                     Vinegar
                                                                                                     A " magic " cleaning cloth
Some screw in 100 watt bulbs

I however am quite safe in my assumption that ive avoided the crush
Even in Kendal...

No, I don't use a bloody silly, noisy stereo type plastic window scrapper on my car window screen...No. Sirree.

Fishy Facts ( sorry )

Its been good to get out this afternoon, really good. I haven't felt completely well for at least a couple of months. My energy has been sapped, but today I guess the anti-biotics Im taking are finally working. I think ive been harbouring something in me that's been draining my energy for sometime. Anyway I visited an Aquarium  this afternoon ( they also had insects ) and learnt some alarming facts !

Seabass all start their lives in the sea as FEMALES, and only when a dominant male dies does a chosen female then change her sex to  MALE, hence replacing him and becoming the shoals new leader ! So I guess that old adage " The king is dead, long live the king " has gained a whole new twist ! I wonder what triggered this evolution ? I shall not start making human comparisons though, don't panic..

Two wheels bad, four wheels good !

Thanks to that scrawny side burned idiot Bradley Wiggins we in Britain are being subjected to a cycling revival. Everyone (my parents included) are buying bikes, Lycra, helmets ect. The roads at weekends are a real safety hazard, in fact our single track road has been added to a national cycle route. Yes I can see why ; narrow road, agricultural traffic, poor visibility...perfect ! Cyclists are among the most rude and dangerous people on the road. They are also very thick and aggressive, this is funny as it doesn't really match their professional image. Don't be fooled these people are real tw*ts !!!
They race along our lanes often at 30mph or more round blind corners or down very steep hills. I met one the other week in the middle of the road down such a hill. He screamed abuse at me as he swerved out of my path. They drive suicidally, but its always someone elses fault when they get caught out. They misjudge, your to blame ! The same goes for motor cyclists. They die on a regular basis of one a month on our local roads over Summer, but that's another story...

Butter  wouldnt melt in their mouths as they say...

What really triggered this rant was that today as I waited at a pedestrian crossing a smug cyclist veered off the road at 90 degrees onto the pavement in front of me without warning, and without easing off. He had that arrogant air about him too. In fact he bristled with it. He had the sun glasses wearing urban Lycra  I stop for nothing look about him. Hes going to die if he carries on like that, just like the next idiot I saw who veered off the pavement and into the road without even looking back. He will die too, but I guess it wont be his fault will it ? Mmm just like the man who is claiming damages against my insurance company because he got knocked over after running across the road without looking ! Why are there so many idiots about, and idiots who will see you in very real trouble when their luck runs out ! Beware...
Tossers !

Sleeping with the enemy ?

Today I saw the first proof that Television is loosing the battle with the Internet for our attentions. Channel 5 has a Twitter page devoted to their programs, and they advertise the comments from this page on T.V , hence if people are talking about a T.V program on-line ,then the program must be worth sitting up and taking notice of ? Right ?
I guess its a kudos thing. They are openly and honestly accepting, and admitting that their measurement of success, is to be seen to be, or being talked about on a social network site. Of course this also neatly sets off the insecurity syndrome in the T.V viewer that they are missing out on something ( a series for example ) that everyone else is talking about on-line, and that's a powerful endorsement. After all we don't want to miss anything  that " everyone " else on-line finds entertaining do we ? Its a very clever marketing tool, but I wonder if they see the irony that the tool they are using to promote themselves is in direct competition with themselves for the general publics attention ? Probably not...

So how do young women manage to look so dire ?

Want to know whats unattractive about young modern women ; then I present to you Pixie Lott  !

Of course this all pales into insignificance when she opens her mouth....

All 'American Horror Story: Freakshow' Teasers in One Video

At last a T.V  show thats worth watching and hits the mark. Its been a long while since ive watched any series on T.V that fully has my attention. The American Horror series is usually a gem, and season 4 seems to be up to scratch so far. And how do they make such unsettling title sequences ?

Awwwgh, who says young love is dead ?!

Yes, this really is a genuine profile picture !!!     WTF

The Changing of the Guard

Today I visited the dentists in Sedbergh, and as I had no loose change for the car park I decided to park out side my late Grandads house on the out skirts of the town. I was not quite prepared for what I saw next. As his house was sold a while ago I expected to see a few changes, and there surely were some. New windows, scaffolding all over the place, privet hedge ( his obsession ) cut down, his rose garden ( what he lived for ) grassed over. Despite all these changes what really brought tears to my eyes was seeing that his old rhubarb patch was still growing in its little corner. This is actually the case in my other late grandparents house and garden too. Its funny how something as mundane as rhubarb can survive so long, in fact it still grows  generations later long after old houses have been long ago abandoned, I have  also seen this happening elsewhere. Whatever we value in life will be soon dismantled by the next generation . Its a sad fact of life unfortunately.

Well it would have been funny...

Im having trouble with my internet, but that's not so unusual. I have tried to cut and paste two photographs to comic effect showing the likeness of  a young Marlon Brando to the character Hiro the steam train from the Thomas the Tank Engine series. However the photo's keep disappearing and in the place of the Hiro photo graph a web address that reads something about " nanoblog racist " appears in its place. Thats odd, even by my standards.

Not the usual annual rant

Your-Country-Needs-You-The-Secret-History-of-the-Propaganda-Poster-by-James

Today I heard an interesting view regarding Remembrance Sunday;  The thing is unless we understand the exact mood of those terrible times then our harking back to that periods events will be void and pointless. Unless we understand how people ticked in those days our view from the comfortable modern age will be nothing more than a sentimental, slightly cynical exercise . For example do we really understand the glamour that  volunteers  perceived would be theirs on joining the armed forces ? Do we understand the social pressure to conform ? This was particularly perpetuated by women !  Did you realise also that Spiritualism exploded around the World War dates ? Can you imagine that situation today ? Really ?  These times were so removed from our modern mind set that the very act of Remembrance is probably a futile excercise, after all no lessons were learnt, or were they ?

Green Day - Warning (Video)

Tonight ive had ENOUGH

Tonight Im not myself, in fact I feel quite sick, but not due to any illness Ive been plagued with recently, more due to an event that happened today. Some of you may remember a year ago nearly exactly that I was involved in a strange road accident in which a man got knocked over by not me but an oncoming vehicle. This Summer he has started a claim for damages against my insurance company, this is on going.
Anyway as the same journey was required this week again we decided to hire a man with a proper wagon to move the sheep, so much safer,  or so I thought. I was happy not to be driving whilst towing a heavy load. Problem sorted then ? Er, no as the driver pulled out in front of a van doing 70mph on a dual carriage way. He just didn't see it coming. Luckily the van whizzed past only inches in front of the wagon. I was not in the wagon but my Dad was and he got home rattled and said it was the closest thing to death he had ever experienced !
So tonight Im wondering just how taking action and doing things right and learning from past mistakes has led to this potential catastrophe? There is no way out. There are no certainty's. Living safely is not enough. Somethings wrong here.
The road is called the A66 and has a deadly reputation. I have wondered in the past if this road is somehow cursed. Google it, death is its middle name. In fact a young man died on there that I used to know, he was driving a tractor and was hit by a lorry. Sorry but I feel depressed tonight and out of faith in anything, after all who knows how long any of us has got ?

Do you know how demoralising it is to plan and take action to avoid trouble only to have it potentially occur on a larger scale ? Its a feeling that's hard to describe, kind of like when you were little and someone told you Santa doesnt exist. Disappointment, so much disapointment that nothing can be done. So what happens now ? Carry on crossing my fingers ? Fuck, this is what lifes really all about isn't it ? Nothing more....  This is a pivotal moment for me.

Asylum 1972

This is one of my favourite horror films and Hammer films of all time. Basically, are the inmates of an asylum really deluded, or have they just experienced a strange side to life ?  A new doctor arrives and is set the task of identifying which inmate was until recently the manager of the Asylum ! OK the special effects are dated, but the stories are good. Of course the opening credits set the tone brilliantly.
Hammer produced another similar film around then too. It starred Donald Pleasance, and it was called  Tales that witness madness, but I cant find that on You-tube unfortunately. I must admit it too is another favourite film of mine.  Again the manager in this second film, also set in an asylum, has to admit that the inmates are all actually telling the truth...Spooky

Wednesday, November 5

Ive recently noticed that as people reach old age they loose their sense of empathy for others and expect more for themselves. I guess I shall be noticing more unpleasant observations like these in the near future...

NO, I DONT HAVE TO !!!

I dont know why, but just recently the words  "  have to "  set light to a touch paper fuse in me. This morning someone told me " I had to do something  "  " but its got to be done today "   A fiery anger burnt up in me and I threw a mug into the sink ( apparently breaking a glass ) and slammed the fridge door ( apparently breaking half a dozen eggs ) No, you dont have to do anything ! Some of the silliest decisions ive seen people make were often preceeded by the dreaded words " but we have to " ! It is surely a prelude to a mistake to leave yourself no wriggle room when considering any actions. Dont tell me I have to do anything !

There is only one phrase which gets me more worried than the above and thats the great  " Gods told me to do it...or its Gods will "   Oh yes, this has been uttered before some true abominations have come to light, and Im talking about things ive seen, not a general attack on Christianity here .Only a deviant could utter such words, and did !

Tuesday, November 4

Ive been ill for weeks. Bad stomach, head ache, bad sinuses, bad chest, stuffed up ect. I cough at night, I take cough mixture,  eventually it gives me heart burn, that makes me cough again... Combined with my Seasonal Disorder kicking in and sapping my energy, at times this subtle and gradual combination has felt like the beginning of my demise. I know that sounds crass and its not so, but this feeling is not something Ive felt before. Maybe having to measure my energy to my work load has pointed out the fact that im not that invincible anymore ?

What we so often forget

Men's Humor's photo.

Feeling strangely smug

How many photographs have you ? I like most readers of this blog can remember the time when the number of photos we took was limited. After all we had to buy a roll of film and take it to the Chemists ( was it the Chemists ? ) to be developed. This was an occasion. We had to wait for the photo's to return too. Today digital cameras mean our photographs are unlimited..
With this in mind I finally got round to a mass deleting session last night. It only took 30 minutes, but I'd been putting it off for months. Less is definitely more. I even put labels on my files, and I found out how to do this despite Windows 8 doing its best to stop me ! Now ive less pictures I may even get round to storing them on a " cloud " back up type gizmo. Ive seen so many people lose their photo's despite using fail safe methods though. Facebook or a blog are I think maybe the ultimate storage tools, maybe.
