Sleeping with the enemy ?

Today I saw the first proof that Television is loosing the battle with the Internet for our attentions. Channel 5 has a Twitter page devoted to their programs, and they advertise the comments from this page on T.V , hence if people are talking about a T.V program on-line ,then the program must be worth sitting up and taking notice of ? Right ?
I guess its a kudos thing. They are openly and honestly accepting, and admitting that their measurement of success, is to be seen to be, or being talked about on a social network site. Of course this also neatly sets off the insecurity syndrome in the T.V viewer that they are missing out on something ( a series for example ) that everyone else is talking about on-line, and that's a powerful endorsement. After all we don't want to miss anything  that " everyone " else on-line finds entertaining do we ? Its a very clever marketing tool, but I wonder if they see the irony that the tool they are using to promote themselves is in direct competition with themselves for the general publics attention ? Probably not...

  1. The media is probably all related and owned by the same people, I don't know. They're most likely just trying to maximise whatever profits one makes or vice versa. I work in telecommunications and it seems all the companies are in bed with one another, and pit "fake competition" just like the whole false left and right or Democrat vs Republican sideshow in the US and other countries. I could be wrong, but I've become intensely paranoid about every little thing as of late Nothing feels "real" about anything anymore, and it's as if people have become the same way. Is it possible?

  2. That's a tough question. Well politics is at a halt over here as each party is insulting it own traditional voters, so I guess they are all on the same side, the side of political correctness that is. That over rides everything. Like me you can feel something wrong with this world, I think there is stillness or irreality as though something has left this earth. I felt it start in 2010 as though a new age had begun. Something is wrong with the news too, its cartoon like in its horror. I know some people who cant watch it anymore. I also think things feel unreal as we get older because society is changing constantly and we are slowly becoming out of touch, just like our parents. Waiting for the unavoidable economic world crash to happen is also creating a strange no mans land type aura. I think were mentally bracing our selves for that as well. As for people becoming unreal if I lived in a city I may have a useful answer...I think fb encourages a group identity to some extent, hence peoples characters seem a bit distorted on there. That's a modern problem. I once heard a comedy sketch on the radio where fb had a predictive app. It spoke for you and added friends for you predictively, it ran your social life automatically ! LOL Someone is probably working on such an app right now...
