Well, ive finally become " ...disgusted of Tunbridge Wells... " Yes, this week ive been quite offended by Radio 4 . Twice ive heard the F - word used in one day alone. O.K, this word was used in an artistic sense as it it was part of a songs lyrics, but I don't expect to hear this word on Radio 4 ! The second time this expletive was used was during a very alternative comedy show. Again not what I expect from this station, or the BBC
My own language is not the best, but that's not the point. Radio 4 is seen as the last bastion of high standards. That's my problem here. I don't know what is going on at the moment but it appears Radio 4 has split into two different mind sets that's are in complete denial of each other. I guess they think that never the twain shall meet... On one hand we have the traditional news based shows, and then there are ever more increasingly alternative comedy sketch shows. These are getting really alternative now, and as they are on air late at night are impossible to follow and just come across a racket.
I cant believe how I sound typing this post. Times must really be moving on if Im saying these things about a very conservative radio station. Two halves of this station are going to collide soon. Listeners will not tolerate both these two styles. Whats the answer then ? Well I hold aloft the BBC World Service as a broadcasting model. Its globally based, fascinating and illuminating. Its a breath of fresh air. Oh, and I love their edgy world music jingles !
