I found this sign on holiday. At first I thought the human was a dog from a distance. Well humans are treating dogs as being human so maybe humans are becoming more dog like ? The real reason though is that public toilets have been closed in remote places and visitor numbers have soared due to international travel restrictions. Beaches in Scotland and laybys are being blocked off with large boulders to prevent people camping or parking up. I can see the day when its just impossible to visit anywhere that is not a designated tourist trap with a visitor centre.
Its a common mis-conception that when in the countryside no one is watching you, even on holiday in a remote place. In Wales I stopped at a small river and went for a quick fish with my daughter. I saw no " private fishing signs " but said to her that in 10 minutes someone will arrive asking if we have permission and surely enough...You cannot switch off for a moment nowadays. Park up and some one will arrive asking questions. It never used to be that way. Everything is regulated and being watched by some busy body. I swear there are designated watchers who do nothing else but snoop on others, the sort of people who checked car number plates of parked cars during lockdown to see if they were local and then reported those to the police that were not registered as " local "
I lived in a car once (with the psychopath) and it was a nightmare dealing with police always checking on me when I was trying to take a nap in a public parking spot while in the car. Here in the USA it is exactly the same. I remember trying to sleep and some stupid cop would flash their lights at us so we would have to move somewhere else just to get a few hours' of sleep. Then when we finally found a place, a car drives up behind us in the dark and just lingers. At the time there was a killer on the loose in that area. So we had to move again. It honestly gets to the point where you realise how intrusive people are, and what really worries me is related to what I just wrote about -- what will happen when the breakdown becomes more apparent? What happens when you couple this behaviour with anger, rage, and the breakdown of our food supply?
ReplyDeleteI cant imagine you living in a car.
