The big question
Has the human being stopped evolving ? An evocative question raised by our resident naturalist of 60 years Sir David Attenborough . His thinking behind this is natural selection is no longer applicable to human beings . If a weak child is born modern medicine kicks in with incubators and defibrillators . 95 % of new borns now survive hence the weakest are passing on genes that should not be passed on . I suppose fertility treatments are to be included in this argument . I don't say this lightly either before someone puts the boot into me as my daughters birth was not exactly probable without a little help ....Darwin himself lost a child and wrestled with whether that was the design of natural selection or the will of God . Its an interesting question.....

Modern medicine is creating a weaker human specimen indeed. I've heard it said that is why we see so many people with allergies today to just about everything. Also due to modern medicine, there is no such thing as overpopulation...the older people are just living longer, and at the same time, there aren't enough being born to be able to support them when these older people need medical care (i.e. through tax revenue). It will be a real mess in the near future. I don't expect to ever receive any sort of pension or social security -- it will all be depleted by the Boomers by then.
