Yes yesterday was a bad day by any standards . I should be filling out a Police Accident Form right now but firstly I want to write the days events on here . Yesterday we set off with a trailer full of sheep on a journey to Barnard Castle where we were taking them to stop for the winter . We met the man who owned the land they were going to and he led the way in his pick up truck as we followed behind .
I had to drive much slower because of the weight we were towing . This meant I lost sight of him round a long blind bend , but quickly saw he was ahead parked blocking my side of the road as he needed to get out to open a gate across the other side of the road . Seeing him I braked as hard as I could but due to the weight we were towing skidded a fair distance and came to a halt just touching his back bumper . Phew ! I thought , ive managed to avoid a bad accident there , but worse was to come . As i glanced out of my side window a car struck him as he crossed the road to open his the farm yard gate , and he was thrown onto the bonnet and then rolled off into the road . He slowly got up so I knew things weren't too bad . The driver which he ran in front of called the Police.and an ambulance .
This type of incident shows you can never predict what others are going to do , even if you yourself avoid calamity's . Sometimes " shit happens "as they say . As I get older things like this surprise me less and less . Ive written before about lifes luck running out as you get older . I am constantly looking out for accidents before they happen recently . I feel a definite weariness which comes from getting older and realising your best is not good enough sometimes and that the horrific may never be far away at all .
The man is OK by the way , just internal bruising . I say just , but had the approaching car been going faster things may have been more serious . Feeling rattled today as this is the second shock to my system as of late and the week has not yet ended .
Driving home afterwards I noticed several close calls caused by drivers doing silly reckless overtaking manoeuvres around me . People seemed to be manic on the road . A full moon coming may be to blame or more likely the early dusk and short days we are now having . We all want to get things done before its dark .

ReplyDeleteYeah, I can relate to that. But that's because it seems people are more dumbed down and the kids are much more poor drivers than ever before.
